Academics Programs and Supports

What Individuals Need (WIN) time is a flexible class period that happens four times per week, Tuesday - Friday, between first and second period, for 30 minutes. Each Monday students will schedule themselves forWIN time and can choose from options such as study halls, academic support, test make-up, enrichment, clubs and other opportunities. Students can go to different options  on different days throughout the week depending on what they need to be successful in school. 

Sometimes, teachers will require a student to attend academic support or test makeup, especially when the student needs to catch up or improve grades, but every student will have some choice during the week. 

The high school also operates a tutoring center in the library, which is open throughout the day. Students can get help from staff during off-sites and study halls or with permission from their classroom teacher.

Hood River Valley High School offers opportunities for students to earn college credit while in high school.

• Advanced Placement courses prepare students to take AP tests, offered by the College Board,  in the spring to potentially earn credits at colleges and universities.
• Dual Credit courses allow students to earn both high school and college credit in regular high school classes.
• The expanded options program allows students to earn their associates degree while they are still in high school.

The TRIO / Upward Bound Programs help students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO supports low-income students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities from middle school to after college.

ASPIRE is Oregon's mentoring program to help students access education and training beyond high school. The program matches trained, supportive adult volunteer mentors with high school students to help them develop a plan that meets their career and educational goals.

The Oregon Seal of Biliteracy celebrates students who are fluent in more than one language. While not required for graduation, this seal honors students' language achievements. The Seal of Biliteracy highlights students' language and academic abilities, offering various ways to prove their proficiency. This seal gives students a recognized certification of their language skills for college and career opportunities.

After school support is available most afternoons in the HRVHS library. Students who stay after school may ride our activities bus home.
