Counseling
As an integral part of the total educational program, the mission of the Hood River Valley High School Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to advocate for each student's academic success, social and emotional well-being, and the broadest range of postsecondary options. The Hood River Valley School Comprehensive School Counseling Program, in collaboration with parents and staff, will empower and assist each student in developing skills to be a successful learner
Confidentiality
Anything our counselors discuss with students, whether in person, on Google Meet, email, text, phone, or otherwise, is confidential. Confidentiality means our school counselors will not share what they talk about with anyone else.
However, there are some situations where our school counselors must break confidentiality:
- If a student is hurting themself, have been hurting themself, or plan to hurt themself.
- If a student is hurting someone, have been hurting someone, or plan to hurt someone.
- If someone has hurt a student, is hurting them, or plans to hurt them.
In these cases, our school counselors must report to authorities such as the school administration, law enforcement, or the Oregon Department of Human Services.
Other situations where confidentiality might be limited include:
- Parents/guardians may ask what our school counselors and students talked about, and they have the right to know.
- A court may order our counselors to share information if it involves a student.
- School staff, such as teachers, may need specific information to support a student.
Even in these situations, our school counselors will try to protect confidentiality as much as possible. If our school counselors must share information, they will do so only as necessary. The confidentiality of our students is important to us. If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.
