Hood River County School District appoints new board director for position 2

The Hood River County School District (HRCSD) Board of Directors is pleased to announce Rich Truax's appointment as the new Director for Position 2. Truax was appointed during the October 23, 2024, school board meeting to fill the position vacated by former board member Barb Hosford, who resigned in early October due to health matters.

Truax, a longtime resident of Hood River County and an active community member, brings a wealth of experience in school-based leadership and volunteer service. He served on the HRCSD Board of Directors from 2015 to 2019, contributing to multiple board activities, including meetings, committee work, financial planning, and campaign support. His commitment to HRCSD has extended beyond his board tenure, as he currently serves on the district’s Finance Advisory Committee and has participated in the budget and facilities committees and multiple capital bond and levy campaigns. His community involvement includes youth sports coaching, trail development with Hood River Area Trail Stewards, and support for various student activities.

Reflecting on his reasons for returning to the board, Truax said, “I believe our community thrives because of volunteerism. A well-run school system is the heart of opportunities for success for students and staff, our community, and our country. With my experience, I am offering to again serve in this role to support our schools.”

Board chair Corinda Hankins-Elliot said, “The board looks forward to Mr. Truax’s insights and leadership as he assumes his duties and contributes to the board’s mission of providing excellent educational opportunities for all students in Hood River County.”
